At ECFS, philanthropy comes in all shapes and sizes. Meet a few of our parents, faculty, alumni, and grandparents who give to ECFS because they believe in the mission of our School. These donors, along with 2,054 others, helped our School exceed our Orange Fund goal in the 2019–2020 academic year and prove why we are Orange Strong Together.
“We support ECFS because we understand the value of its education and its strong community,” says ECFS parent Raven Maldonado-Brown, who is an Orange Fund donor and an Orange Fund volunteer. “Supporting the School means ensuring that our children have extraordinary academic, ethical, and social-emotional learning opportunities and the environment needed to develop as students.”
Nelie Locher, Upper School Librarian, is a Loyal Oaks member who has given to the Orange Fund for over five years. “I think what makes ECFS strong is what makes it different,” she says. “This school is not afraid to dig in and do the sometimes difficult, messy work that is often part of confronting many of the complicated issues we face today.”
For Michael Shindler ’09, who is an Orange Fund donor, Loyal Oaks member, and member of the Fieldston Alumni Network Leadership Council, giving to ECFS is a way of giving back. “I wouldn’t have been able to attend ECFS if not for the financial support offered by the School,” he says, “and I would like to give other students the ability to go to ECFS no matter their financial situation.”
And the same is true for ECFS grandparents Pat and Paul Saunders, who are donors to the Orange Fund: “We both went to college and graduate school on merit scholarships. By supporting ECFS, we are giving back, enabling students to get financial aid at a time when many are struggling.”
